The holidays are just around the corner, and we have some awesome events coming up that we wanted you to know about.

First, we are excited to announce that Dave Spitz, owner of Cal Strength, will be coming to Grassroots on November 29th at 11:15am to coach an Olympic Lifting class. If you don’t know Cal Strength, they are one of the premier weightlifting gyms in the country, with several top level National athletes, and they also prepare NFL athletes for strength and conditioning during the offseason. Dave will host a brief seminar on the Barbell WOD, which is the basis for our team training program, and will then run an Olympic Lifting session with other Cal Strength athletes coaching. We recommend that any intermediate and advanced level athletes who are looking to improve their technique come join us for this amazing opportunity!

Next, we will be having our second inter-gym competition, the Snowball Brawl, on December 6th! Just like our last competition, we will have an RX and scaled division, so all ability levels are encouraged to sign up. This time, teams will consist of 2 male or 2 female athletes. Sign up sheets and additional information are already posted by the bulletin board near the main bathroom, including a list of all weights and movements required to participate in each division. Come join us, have some fun in a friendly throwdown, and maybe even surprise yourself at your abilities.

Third, many of you have already noticed that the new Berkeley Sports Basement has just launched and is very close to Grassroots! We have partnered with Sports Basement to offer a Grassroots Appreciation Day, available to all GRCF members. On Sunday, December 7th, come to Sports Basement between 1-3pm and receive complimentary food and beverages, as well as 20% off all merchandise in the store! The discount applies all day, so if you can’t make it between 1-3pm, come on by anyway and get all of your holiday shopping done during this generous event.

Last, but not least, we are in planning for our Second Annual Winter Formal. For those of you who made it last year, it was an awesome time and a great chance for members to mingle with friends as well meet others with different workout schedules. This year, we’re looking to take the party to an outside venue so that we can really let loose! Dates and times are still being confirmed, but plan on a weekend in mid-January.
We hope you’re able to join us for these events this winter. In this time of reflection, we’re thankful for you all and we hope to have even more planned for 2015.
